New Designer Spotlight: Grand Culture Clothing

Recognizing new designers and spotlighting their brand is something I strive to do. As more and more clothing brands start to increase their online shopping presence, lots of entrepreneurs are finding success with launching online brands. Today I would like to introduce you all to a new clothing company Grand Culture Clothing, this brand of hoodies and t-shirts is currently being sold online. I recently had a discussion with the company COO Michael Jenkins and he gave me a little more insight into the company.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, and how you got started in the fashion industry.

I am originally from Detroit, MI (Westside), and currently live with my family in the Dallas area. My career in fashion began with my work at Pelle Pelle, which at the time, was one of the most aspirational brands in Detroit.  Growing up, all my idols wore Pelle jackets, and I wanted one my whole life.  It was my dream job. I started in the warehouse fulfilling orders, was promoted to customer service, and ended my career there leading the marketing department.  Through this opportunity, I gained valuable insight into what makes a brand successful, and how to engage directly with its consumers. For me, marketing and fashion have always been more about building a lifelong relationship with people than selling clothing.

Why this brand, what’s the difference this project and others you’ve worked on in the past?

Grand is an amazing brand that services a segment of the population that is often overlooked.   Men of all sizes and shapes want to have access to quality clothing that is designed to fit them well. Grand is thoughtfully designed, high-quality clothing made for men that traditional brands have left behind.  In addition, the team at Grand consists of industry newcomers and vets that share a passion for quality and a drive for excellence.

I have had the opportunity to work on some legendary projects during my career, and Grand has the energy that reminds me of the late 1990s and early 2000’s when the fashion industry was full of burgeoning innovative brands that weren’t afraid of trying new things.  Grand is striving to do that and to serve a larger audience.

Is this a black-owned brand? Is it strictly online and how is it running and online brand?

Grand is 100% black-owned.  Right now, Grand is being sold online only, which allows us to directly reach the widest audience.   We have had interest from retail outlets, but at this time we are concentrating our efforts online.  We want Grand to be a long-term brand and we are very protective over how our brand is marketed and presented to the world.

Do you have future plans to open brick and mortar locations?

If the first few months of 2020 have shown us anything, it is that the unexpected should be expected.  What we can say is that our focus is on delivering quality, innovative, artfully designed products to our consumers. If a brick and mortar location opportunity supports that goal, it is something that we will consider.   In the meantime, we remain focused on our consumer and making Grand a brand that stands the test of time.

Having had the chance to try out and shoot in some Grand Culture items I must say that the brand has great style and quality. Killer Mike is a big supporter of Grand Culture he can be seen wearing the line in many appearances.
